From 8th-22nd February, 1918, the 2/2nd London battalion of 173Brigade, 58th Division were at Fargniers and Quessy, in the most southerly sector of the British line, working on construction of the Battle Zone and reconnaissance of Forward Zone. This was the lull before the storm. Everyone knew that a massive German attack was coming here and were desperately working to strengthen the defences. During this period, 2/2nd London had four men killed, all on 16th February, but there is no mention in the Battalion Diary of these casualties one of whom was Cecil Johnson. |
